This is so wicked one of the trumpet players can't contain himself. There's other BR videos where one of the trumpet players is amazed by Buddy's soloing. Some of these younger guys in the band must be thinking over and over, "Holy Sh !!! I'm in Buddy Rich's Band. Of course they've earned their spot in the band.

I am not sure where or when this was recorded. I am not aware of anything for sale with this video recording.. Forgive me Cathy, but I think people should see this. I am permanently disabled and just do what I can to bring enjoyment and joy into as many peoples lives as I can. Please do not respond to other people that are less intelligent than you who say any other drummer is better than Buddy...

This is for educational purposes. Buddy Rich breaks up his drum solo into multiple parts at the beginning and throughout a musical number as drum breaks.

compared to buddy we are all disabled !
WOW..JUST WOW
❤❤❤😂
Into the face of those who say Buddy was no musical drummer. Here you have musicality galore and still wonder chops.
I don’t think he even understands music, he is very technical but not very musical. When was the last time anybody sat down to listen to Buddy Rich? Probably never.
Interesting, Frank Sinatra thought Buddy was musical enough to have the Buddy Rich Band be his back up band. John Williams had him play with the Boston Pops. I play Buddy Rich’s Big Band CDs. My Father played his albums on vinyl. You are entitled to your opinion though. Whenever you read this; have a great day!
For those of you who do appreciate Buddy’s musicianship. Here are the songs that lead to this drum solo. m.ua-cam.com/video/1YMdSE9wBk0/v-deo.html
Everyone has their own opinion about drummers and solos, and that's fair enough. I was a 70's kid who started playing drums at 3 years old and was brought up listening to Buddy and Gene and Louie and big band jazz, so that's the music I started playing to first as a young drummer. I can't read music, so everything I've done on drums over the past 50+ years has been by ear, or what I learned from a couple of teachers for the short time that I had them. Other drummers may have the chops Buddy had, and may be able to shred like he could in terms of speed, but what blows my mind about Buddy when he solos is the fluidity and the ability to make things up as he goes along with dynamic and even comedic shifts. Buddy mastered the rudiments and his left hand came from some other being I think, but he can improv and play a different rapid-fire combination of patterns with all four limbs each time while not even looking at what he's doing. His stick control and his body control in how economical he was with his physical motion were mind-boggling. He played the drums, the cymbals, the rims, the bass drum, the stands...and the sticks like it was a walk in the park. This solo is a perfect demonstration of his improvisational skills, and his solo from the Sinatra show (look up "The Impossible Solo" on UA-cam) where he actually has a heart attack in mid-solo but finishes the song is a testament to how hard he always worked to put on the best show each night for the audience. Some may be able to imitate Buddy, but there will never be another Buddy when it comes to soloing or swinging a big band. He was, quite simply, a machine.
Drum solos aren't everything, but holding down an interlocked groove as the heart of the rhythm section along with the bass player. He was an excellent exhibition drummer in the big band tradition of musical expression. But I'm not going to worship the guy. Lenny White, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham, Bernard Purdie, Neil Peart, and Tony Williams, among many others demonstrate that virtuosity isn't necessary as long as proficiency is enough.
You're right!!! Buddy is the best of all time. I saw him play many times. At every concert, you could see some people melting in theie seats, I mean just melting. Those were the drummers!!! I don't think Buddt will EVER be surpassed. God bless Buddy Rich FOREVER
Poetry in motion.
One of a kind. The best there will ever be.
When I listen to solos today, I can hear the influence Buddy had on drummers. From current jazz drummers to the gospel chop guys to the guys jamming it out in their bedrooms, they all have elements of Buddy in their drumming.
Two of the truly greatest of the greats Louis Bellson and Buddy Rich were in fact, great "BUDDIES"..!
PURE TALENT IN A WORLD OF CRAP NOW!!
U are witnessing a God
rbogen9199...I know the feeling.I too am disabled to the point that I can't play the drums any more and it's sad.Thank you sooooo much for putting this up.Buddy Rich was in a class by himself....
C est pourri leurs émissions on voit rien
Other worldly , never ever to be matched and i seen him do this so many and from close up too .
I had the privilege to play with gene Krupa. In1964 I was scared 😳😳😳😳😳 shit he gave me so much confidence God bless him buddy was tuff he said one thing to me he said say focused be strong and don't quit the Lord hates a quitters. Now go home and practice I drove the neighborhood crazy 😧😧😧 God bless the two greatest drummers off all time buddy and gene. Krupa
No wrist at all. It seems to be all fingers on the left hand. Back and forth, in and out. The man knew how to use gravity
The indurance and dexterity of buddy is 🤯
I know that opinions are personal, but after seeing this man doing a drum solo in wich his Bass drum pedal was a blur (no damn double pedals)and the mastery of his use of every Part of the kit is hallucinating. Truly the G.O.A.T🤯🤯🤯🤯👆👆👆👆
he ain't faking .. whole lotta buddy going on!
What I admire the most of buddy in this particular clip is the soft articulate way is so ptevelant the master drummer does not have to play loud and bang the holy hell out of his cymbals many many drummers out there today many of them blast out loud and get louder as they play sounds like carpet bombing buddy rich could and would play very very soft and gradually work up to a mind boggling finale it’s the buddy rich way the legendary drummer way
No better drummer than Buddy his patterns ,speed endurance dynamics, his left hand leaves all other drummers wishing that they could do half of what this man could do
Where can find the interview
people that saw him played are awesome lucky.... The thunder God of drummers...
The Master!
this is almost funny "it doesnt get any better than this! well, until you see another new vid that somehow will top this one br man hell never be equaled the word PROLIFIC tends to fit him like a glove.. one thing i do NOT understand though its this..why do these dumb people mostly 20/30 somethings say they are maybe not as great as br but think theyre even close (but they honestly are light years behind i dont care if your drum ometer speed says you're faster, i mean that i think can be true but all around musicality showmanship finesse. Guys (esp that silly ass whiplash kid who keeps getting us to think he's in buddys back pocket..i got news, that kid is not even musical, i have child students who say more than that kid at half the speed no matter how fast he plays folks? technique is a "MEANS TO AN END" yes you NEED chops to pull off some of brs things but without the musicality thing or swing those wannabes no matter how well meaning they may be? just make absolute fools of themselves continually placing their name next to buddys..its getting annoying to tell you the truth i mean isnt it? any one who has big enough ears can hear all of the musical notes pouring out of buddy most times fast but he can do it at any tempo shit he can do it w one stick..yet these foolish little kids ask dumb questions like is "buddy rich the goat" I guess were all supposed to answer..well, he WAS but now you are?" lol sorry but no. id like to tell that knat to piss off and start playing musically then maybe he can call himself a drummer never mind if buddy is goat or not i personally think he is well anyway rant over..im just surprised at the number of seemingly musically deaf the people who say hes in ANY way close to buddy..its just not the case! remember butch miles? heres his formula.... touch time swing finesse then the musical 3d approach which that kid seems to have no clue wtf THAT even is im not going to explain it here too long already.. ill just sum it up for now unless asked..one word.......NOPE!
You have the interview?
Amazing
What the hell did I just experience!!! WOW!!!
dont really like most of the channel one suite solos, this one applies as well. the one that stands out as one of the best (not only among the channel one suite solos but of all his solos) was the one played at caesars palace, which by a tragic coincidence doesnt have video recording. taking it a bit too easy in my opinion.
Once, he centralized all the notes on exclusively the snare drum THEN commenced with the stick shots...well?.. Needless to say ,that shit was INDUBITABLY certified gangsta .
If there is or ever has been a drummer better or equal to Buddy Rich, I haven't seen him or her.
What in the holy hell!?
Buddy’s drums sound incredible here.
Weird seeing him using matched grip on the intro
THE greatest drummer to EVER walk planet earth...Bernard "Buddy" Rich
The absolute master. Nobody better.
A legend, probably from another planet.
I saw buddy at Lakewood Civic Auditorium back in 1975 and he was walking out while my mom and I were waiting for a cab and all I could think of the say was hi buddy
Why don't those fucking idiots making all the noise shut up and listen to the brilliance of this man.
The Best ever. In his own league.
Always tell when Buddy is playing Ludwig & not Slingerland. Ludwig doesn’t have that warm sound Slingerland has.
Still the most amazing drummer I've ever heard.
Relentless effortless blistering spanked accents stop 'n starts ..... I need to go lie down now ..... 🌟 👑
As someone who can’t even walk on beat I like seeing someone excel so wildly that even the hardest of professionals are impressed. It’s awesome
Love the drumming. hate the audience! What's with all the hollering and screaming during the solo? Just listen, and watch the Master at work.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
